With a degree from the University of Southern California, the former Trojan All-American basketball player began his oil industry career in 1956 with the Union Oil Company. In the early 1960's, Roy moved his family to Santa Maria, CA, where he became Regional Sales Manager for the Douglas Oil Company; a west coast refiner later acquired by Conoco.

In the 1970's, Mr. Irvin became Vice President Wholesale Marketing for the Edgington Oil Company, an independent refiner in Long Beach. In addition to his marketing role with Edgington, Roy assumed the duties of General Manager of Edgington's transportation division, Hercules Oil Company. 

In 1978, Roy purchased a pre-owned petroleum transport with "BTL" on the doors, changed the "B" to an "I", and started the family business; ITL.

Jeff's career in the oil industry began at the age of 18 as a laborer in a Long Beach refinery. While attending college, he worked as a chef at Disneyland’s exclusive Club 33, a timekeeper and safety coordinator for an asphalt-paving contractor and a dispatcher for a petroleum transportation company. After receiving his Engineering degree from Cal Poly Pomona, Jeff joined with his father and started ITL out of the guest room of the family residence.

Mr. Irvin is a past President of the California Independent Oil Marketers Association and has served on several association boards including the California Trucking Association and the Pacific Oil Conference. In 2005, Jeff was elected Chairman of the Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA) which represents 8,000 petroleum marketers nationwide. 

An instrument rated private pilot, Jeff enjoys flying at every opportunity along with cooking, playing tennis and coaching youth sports. Jeff and his wife Kristen are the proud parents of five children.
